Trying a Banana Ice Cream Chocolate Shake

Today's recipe was found on the TikTok page @faithsfresh. The original recipe was dairy-free, which just meant she used almond milk instead of regular. Once again I used the Vitamix A3300 blender, however, this should work with most blenders you might have at home. Other than that, the only other supplies you need are measuring tools and a cup to put it in.

This was the first time I had tried making a milkshake without ice cream and I went in with very high hopes that I’d find a healthier alternative than store-bought chocolate ice cream. The hardest part of the recipe is just trying to cut open the frozen bananas, and everything else you can just throw into your blender. Even though this is not a very thick consistency recipe, I still do recommend putting wet ingredients in first, like the milk and syrup, then everything else, like the bananas and cocoa powder.

Now on to the fun part: my thoughts on the recipe. If I am completely honest, I was let down. The bananas had an extremely overpowering flavor and the cocoa powder didn’t have enough to dissolve with, so the two flavors came one after another and not together. In saying this, though it was a strong banana flavor, a banana does not really taste like much, so the main taste was very bland. Lacking some flavor I tried to add some peanut butter into it later on but yet the drink was still a bit disappointing.

However, I recommend taking my liking of it with a grain of salt because it is still a way healthier version of a milkshake. If you want a more muted and not overpowering taste of chocolate, I say go for it.
